Staff member Dylan has just returned from a trip over the Western Australia, and while not solely a fishing trip - he did manage to get some fishing done. Within an hour's drive from Perth CBD itself there is a good array of options for the keen fisherman, with many landbased. While away Dylan managed to get offshore to chase the mighty Samson fish, and while no real monsters were landed he did land a handful of fish in the 10 - 12kg range. Mechanical jigging in up to 110m of water with jigs in the 350g weight range was the best technique on the boat.

Dylan also fished the local estuaries where he got into some nice bream while fishing with Compleat Angler Nedlands staff member Ben, on both hardbodies and surface lures. Wading some flats in a local estuary also saw plenty of small yellowfin whiting hitting lures too - with most of the action in water around 20cm deep.

It's no secret that snapper love soft plastics, but catching that really big fish can be a challenge.

Customer Aaron sent in a photo of a thumping snapper he caught recently from over in Western Australia. Aaron was fishing off Two Rocks near Perth using Gulp soft plastics when he caught this cracker.

Aaron found that Gulp jerk shads in the 7 inch size were the most effective when fished on a 1 ounce jighead. Aaron also caught WA dhufish, breaksea cod, tailor and a couple of small sharks on the plastics.

Customer Adrian went out for a fish recently fishing inshore just South of Perth with his family.

Using a light Daiwa spinning outfit that he recently purchased and some soft plastics he landed a couple of different fish species including this juvenile samson fish. Adrian said that even though the sambo wasn't huge it still fought like a champion!

Samson fish are known to grow to over 50kg and are caught close by to Perth in good numbers during the warmer months of the year.
